Had the big "setback" yesterday. We were going to put the head on with the brand new ARP studs I ordered a week and a half ago, when we noticed the ones under the valve cover are about an 1/8" too long....I ordered studs for a 4.2, not a 4.0!! Not only that, but I don't think ARP MAKES studs for a 4.0! Needless to say, that stopped progress on the top end.
We went ahead and installed the timing chain cover , high volume oil pump and new pickup tube. When we tried to put the pan on, the tube was hitting. Not only that, but it was pointing the wrong way. It looked like it was made for a center sump. We took the old one off, and installed on the new pump (after I drilled out the mounting hole...of course it was DIFFERENT).
I'm going to call ARP Monday and see what they suggest, or if they'll swap out 7 of the studs with me, or if they recommend "double washers", or what.....

Got the distributor in. I had an old set of plug wires and spent a couple of hours Sunday trying to decide the best, neatest way to route them....what do you think? Had to clearance the valve cover to allow for the new studs. If you're doing this swap, you can order the studs from CV Products individually. They're cheaper, and really nice to deal with. You'll need seven studs that are 5.4" long, and seven to go under the valve cover that are 5" long. We also had to cut the cross pieces on the gasket that came with the valve cover.

Didn't get much done this past weekend. I did get the electric fuel pump and regulator located and mounted. I also figured out a plan to relocate the power steering pump. We'll make a new bracket and lower it out of the way of the header.
The most important thing I did was figure out how to make AN hoses! It's really not that bad, but DON"T us a cutoff wheel, Dremel tool, or hacksaw (Portaband, in my case) as suggested in some instructions I've seen. It won't work! The wheels heat up the rubber inside and make the braid fray like a bouquet of flowers. The sawblade catches at the very end of the cut and pulls stainless wire out of the braid and makes a HELLLUVA mess. What I wound up with was going to my work truck and getting a set of "rabbit ears"...they're larger type cable cutters...and with a little electical tape (33+) it works GREAT!!

I saw on one of the car shows they taped up the AN line and then cut it to prevent the fraying. I think they used a cutoff wheel to do it. Other than cutting it, how do you like the AN line? Easy to put ends on?

Like I said, I couldn't get the cutoff wheel to work...may not have been holding my mouth right...but, once I figured out the cutters worked, I didn't have any trouble!

Finally got it RUNNING!!! Michael and I worked on it all day Saturday, installing the radiator, fan, hoses, E3 plugs (them SOB's are $6 each!) finishing up the fuel line, etc, etc.... We turned it over for the first time and it fired right up. No leaks. No smoke. No knocking. Sweet! I spent all day Sunday straightening up the wiring....which is code for cutting an oil case box of wire out of it. I had already removed a five gallon bucket full when I did the firewall!
Well, that's it in a nutshell. That's not all that happened.....I'll have to tell you about the "test runs"...just not tonight...
Pics to follow, too......
